Madawaska School Department News
Web Site Rebuild Completed
The school department recently completed a rebuild of the school web site. The new pages have an updated look to the header and a common width for the pages which make them easier to read. A common color background also makes the pages stand out. Improvements were made to the black navigation menus to make them easier to operate, and links to the school web mail and to the public portion of PowerSchool were included in the redesign. We hope these changes help you find the information you were looking for in the site.
PowerSchool Offline for the Summer
PowerSchool will be offline the rest of the summer so that the end of the year work may be completed and the new information rolled over for the upcoming year. During the next few weeks, final grades will be stored, honor rolls determined, and state reports generated. Then the end of the year processes will begin, which moves the schedules over from one year to the next and archiving of old data may be completed. Then we shall be upgrading the PowerSchool software to take advantage of improvements made over the past year. We envision PowerSchool being back online for the first week of August.
Fast & Female a Huge Success at MES
On March 25th, over 150 girls, including girls from MES and area schools, had the opportunity of a lifetime to ski with Olympians. Kikkan Randall of the US Olympic Ski Team started the "Fast and Female" program in the United States. The skiers participated in an obstacle course and skied our cross-country trails. During the day, the message was to promote healthy and active lifestyles. A few girls were even interviewed by WAGMtv Sports News. Thank-you to all the volunteers for making this day possible! ACTEM site for details. Congratulations for your outstanding work, Gina!
New Navigation Menus on Web Pages
During the Christmas break, several changes were made to the web site. Flash slideshows of student work now show up on some pages, and each school's homepage now has a link to the weather center on the middle/high school's roof. Now all items on the district's web site will be accessible through a horizontal navigation menu just under the blue page headers. Clicking on the grey tabs will produce a series of links to pages. This menu will result in less scrolling to find material you desire. Links to the PowerSchool page, Savvy web page editor, and school web mail portal are all found under the Logins tab.
Web Page Address Update and Other Changes to Web Site
The Madawaska School Department's web site has changed from http://www.madhs.mad.k12.me.us to the more easily remembered
http://www.madawaskaschools.org after some upgrades in the summer of 2008. While the content is essentially the same, some changes to the look and feel of the templates should make for a cleaner, more organized look and feel. Most pages will now have navigation menus running horizontally across the top of the page instead of down the left hand side of the pages. The search results for the new web address will take some time to make their way through all the search engines, but eventually they will populate correctly. For feedback email

NCLB Review Completed
The Madawaska School Department recently completed their No Child Left Behind (NCLB) review of how it spends federal funds locally. The review was completed by a team of employees from the Maine Department of Education. While a formal report will be forthcoming, the committee left Madawaska with a few recommendations but many commendations for the excellent efforts put forth.
NEASC Accreditation Visitation Completed
The New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) completed the accreditation review of Madawaska Middle/High School March 31st to April 2nd. Bob Souther, leader of the accreditation team, briefed members of the MMHS faculty and staff after school Wednesday at the conclusion of the day. He left with many commendations for the excellent programs being offered at MMHS, and had a couple of recommendations that will come out when the report is released later this spring. Members of the visitation team came from schools across the state, and they reviewed all aspects of the school. Accreditation is an important process, as it validates the quality of the school in the eyes of the association. Mrs. Gisele Faucher did a wonderful job leading the accreditation team's self study period, which began two years ago.

The Madawaska School Department now has a podcast, which is an audio program which will be published on a biweekly basis. The purpose of these short audio programs will be to explain some of the "behind the scenes" issues occurring in the schools. Episode 1 titled "The Introduction" has been posted at
