MADAWASKA, Maine — The Pride of Madawaska Band had a rare opportunity to play before thousands of fans at the Harold Alfond Sports Stadium in Orono on Oct. 6, when 25 students joined the Pride of Maine Black Bear Marching Band.

The budding musicians joined the more experienced university band members during halftime of a football game between the Black Bears and Villanova.  Valley Unified music teacher Taylor Martin, director of the Pride of Madawaska Band, accompanied the students.

“We went down to play with that band to gain experience, and to see how band members work together,” Martin said of the field trip to Orono. “The UMO band has a lot of spunk and energy, and they are eager to mentor and encourage younger players. They are a great example of positivity for the students.”

The half-time performance may have motivated the Maine Black Bears who defeated Villanova 13-10 with an exciting 52-yard field goal as time expired.
