The Madawaska Middle School Language Arts students participated in the annual Scripps National Spelling Bee. All of the 7th and 8th grade students participated in classroom bees, with winners advancing to the final school bee. On January 28th, twelve contestants competed for the distinction of being the Madawaska Middle School Spelling Bee Champion. After 32 rounds of outstanding spelling, 7th grader Justin Pelletier, son of Bruce and Stacie Pelletier, finally outlasted 8th grader Alexis Albert, daughter of Jeff and Tina Albert. Judges for the bee were Mrs. Jan Lee, Madawaska Middle School Teacher, and Mr. Vincent Vanier, Madawaska School Department Technology Coordinator.
Justin participated in the Aroostook County Spelling Bee on February 4th at the University of Maine at Fort Kent’s Fox Auditorium. Incredibly, he came out victorious, correctly spelling the word “foist” to capture the county crown. Justin will now participate in the state spelling on March 19th. Congratulations Justin on some outstanding work!
