Our school had a special guest speaker today, Mr. Julian Burton, address them on the importance of choices in their lives. His powerful and engaging speaking presence made for an exciting time.
Julian Burton was a world class athlete from Australia who was injured in the 2002 Bali bombings which killed 202 people and injured 209. While recovering from his injuries, he had time to reflect on many aspects of his life. His father Wayne was inspirational during his recovery, reminding him that how he lived the rest of his life depended on the choices he made from that point forward. It changed his life.
Burton chose to be gracious for the life he had and to give back to the people around him. He chose to leave the teaching profession and in 2005 founded the Julian Burton Burns Trust to raise funds for the prevention, care, and research into burn injuries.
Mr. Burton is the fiancee of Ms. Kay Gerard, which makes him the future son-in-law of our own faculty member Mr. Tom Gerard. Along his two of his sons Max and Archie, who had never experienced snow before this trip to the US.
