To the Madawaska Middle/High School Students:
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth;
So often in life, we are defined, not so much by who we are, as what we do. Edison was ridiculed as he developed the light bulb. Yet, his philosophy of, "Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration. Accordingly, a genius is often merely a talented person who has done all of his or her homework" seemed to garner him success. Robert Fulton revolutionized the steamboat, all the while his "doubters" ridiculed and ostracized him. Even when his boat steamed by, his "doubters" stood on shore, betting on how far it would go before it sank.
In today's highly competitive society, it is easy to "hitch your wagon" to someone or something that seems successful. It is difficult, however, to single one's self out and strive for that dream, that ideal, while others around you scoff and laugh. Remember Edison, Fulton, and all the others from our great history. Strive to be that next Fulton or Gates or King. Do not let the doubters of the world dictate your choices. Remember what Frost said. .
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.
