In June, 2016, at the end of the school year students at the Madawaska Elementary School were given a challenge to read over the summer. This challenge was put together by the Maine Department of Education and the Free Masons of Maine. All students were invited to
participate in the Read to Ride Summer Reading Challenge. They were to read at least 500 minutes this summer to qualify for a chance to win a bike and helmet (one of 48 throughout the State of Maine). Students submitted their reading log at the beginning of this school year which was then submitted to the State of Maine. We are pleased to announce that MES had a winner, third grade student Zachary Quistorf. Summer is the perfect time to explore the world through books—learn about topics of interest, escape to real and imaginary places and let your mind explore new worlds. Congratulations to all the students who participated and to Zachary!
