During the month of April, the 4th grade students at Madawaska Elementary School had the opportunity to read books in order to earn a chance at winning a new bike!  The Masonic Bikes for Books program has been created in an effort to encourage students to read and is sponsored by the Charitable Foundation of the Grand Lodge of Maine.  This year alone approximately 90 Masonic Lodges throughout Maine presented nearly 1,500 bicycles to children participating in reading programs in local schools and public libraries. Evidence shows that schools participating in the program are witnessing improved reading scores among their students. Books also enlighten, inspire, bring happiness and success, challenge our perspectives and provide comfort at difficult times in our lives.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, May 26, two representatives of the Fort Kent Masonic Lodge No. 209 presented bikes to 2 MES students, Breanna O and Gavin W!  Congratulations on your new bikes!
