Grade 2 Room 114 Reading Street is our new Language Arts program. Unit 1 Spelling Words: Short vowel words - i.e. sack, desk, rib, job, dust Long vowel silent "e" rule - VCe i.e. huge, mice, page, nose Consonant blends - i.e. breeze, strap, clip Inflected endings - i.e. talked, dropping, lifted, hugging Digraphs - i.e. bunch, chase, math, shape, whale Grammar - Complete sentences - A complete sentence needs a capital letter to begin and punctuation at the end. Subjects (tells who? or what?) and Predicates (tells what the subject does or is) Writing - Realistic Fiction has made up characters, events that could be real, and a beginning, middle and end. Social Studies & Science component- Unit Question: What can we learn by exploring? We do this through exploring communities, space, and nature.

Tips to help your reader become a more confident and better reader. Read daily ("just right" books) Make reading fun. Be an example by letting them see you read for your own pleasure.
