Shop with a Cop

The second annual "Shop with a Cop" event was held on Monday, December 18th. Twelve students from grades K-6 were able to take part. The purpose of the event is to foster positive relationships between youth and officers. Students from Kindergarten to 6th grade are selected each year during the end-of-the-year holiday season to shop at one of the local area stores to purchase gifts for members of their immediate family. Officers met the students at MES 9:00 am, where they all boarded a bus to begin shopping at Marden's in Madawaska. Children were each assigned to a law enforcement officer, who escorted them around the store and assisted in selecting appropriate gifts for each family member. The children are told that the money was not for personal use and was only to be spent on family members. Students, officers, and packages then boarded the bus again and made their way to the Madawaska Safety Complex, where they went right to work wrapping, wrapping and more wrapping! This year we had a couple special visitors...Santa and Mrs. Claus dropped by to see how the elves were doing. After wrapping was completed, students and officers shared pizza, cookies and stories. Before Santa and Mrs. Claus left, they had a special gift for each of the students. A great time was had by all!  For more pictures you can visit https://photos.app.goo.gl/BSwrD9Z6vKZvXgv32 or view the story on WAGM-TV's website http://www.wagmtv.com/content/news/Shop-with-a-Cop-465082733.html
